When deciding where to dine for a special occasion, Indian restaurants often spring to mind. The one place known for Indian Restaurants is Manchester. With the succulent meat and strong flavours Indian cuisine can be hard to resist.

There are many dishes available on the Indian menus from classic favourites to rare treats. It can be hard to decide what to get for your meal. If you’re feeling like playing it safe here are some of the most popular Indian curry sauces.

Tikka Masala is one of the Indian favourites in Britain. It is arguably the most popular curry dish in the UK. Chicken is a popular food amongst English cuisine and is no exception in Indian cuisine. Chicken Tikka Masala is probably very popular due to the mildness of the curry. Many people are sensitive to spices and tikka masala is both tasty and easy on the heat. Many people eat chicken tikka masala when they have a curry for the first time due to it being mild and very widely known. It is generally a bright red colour and is mildly spicy with hints of coconut and sweetness.

Vindaloo is a very popular due to the sheer strength of it. Many people call it a “man’s” curry due to it being extremely strong. It is wrongly known as the hottest curry available on the menu which isn’t necessarily true in all Indian catering establishments. In India, Vindaloo is commonly served at marriage parties in addition to regularly featuring in home cooking.

Rogan Josh is a popular mild-medium sauce and is ideally served with lamb. Rogan Josh gets its rich red colour from the Kashmiri dry red chillies and tomatoes that are typically used to make the sauce. Rogan Josh is generally one of the more tomato flavoured dishes available within Indian cuisine. Rogan Josh is considered to be more of a meat based dish although Vegetable Rogan Josh is available on the menu on Indian restaurants.

Korma is one of the mildest dishes available on most Indian Restaurants Manchester menus. It is a yellowish/golden colour and generally a thick texture. It is a very sweet curry sauce which has a main taste base of coconut. Combining korma sauce with chicken is a popular sauce for those who don’t like to eat spicy curries when dining in an Indian restaurant. It is a rather creamy dish and is not considered to be spicy at all, many people try this dish when experiencing Indian cuisine for the first time.

Madras is a considerably spicy curry sauce which has a reddish appearance. The dish is a popular choice in Britain with meat or vegetables; however the dishes origin lies in Hindu culture so it was originally a vegetarian dish. The dish is named after the city it originates from in India. Although Madras dishes vary, it is generally considered to consist of smooth coconut flavours, toasty spices and have earthy tones.
